There is a fact that Heart Disease is the #1 standing cause of death in African Americans. Heart disease happens when plaque buildup thickens and stiffens artery walls, which can inhibit blood flow through your arteries to your organs and tissues. Atherosclerosis is also the most common cause of cardiovascular disease. While it is the number cause of death in African American according to the mayoclinic it can be caused by correctable problems such an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, being overweight and smoking.

Although cancer is more vicious killer, the numbers are steadily rising, however heart disease is yet the leading killer among  African Americans. Unhealthy eating habits, lack of exercise, being overweight and smoking are all correctable problems that can help this rate go down.
